About Center Stage Reading
Our Mission
Center Stage Reading is an in-school literacy enrichment program designed for students in Grades 3 and 4. Founded by a teacher and literacy specialist, the program leverages Reader’s Theater, an evidence-based instructional approach, to develop fluency through performance. Through engaging, collaborative reading experiences, students build vocabulary, deepen comprehension, strengthen prosody, and grow in confidence as readers, all while having fun!
Residency Options
Flexible Programs To Meet Your Class or School Needs
6-Week Standard Reader's Theater Residency | 45 Minutes
The 6-week residency introduces students to the foundational elements of fluent reading through structured, engaging lessons.
Students learn to:
- Read smoothly using phrasing (scooping)
- Use punctuation to guide expression
- Develop character voice and emotion
- Build confidence through repeated reading and rehearsal
Each session builds toward a final performance experience where students apply their fluency skills in a meaningful and motivating way.
10-Week Reader's Theater + Script Lab Residency | 45 minutes
The 10-week residency builds on the core 6-week program with the addition of Center Stage Script Lab.
Students take the stage as writers, crafting original scripts and bringing them to life through expressive reading and performance. This 4-session extension builds on fluency skills while developing creativity, collaboration, and written expression.
